Spain: Forest fire burns 6,000 hectares
MADRID (AP): Spanish officials say a forest fire has burned 6,000 hectares (15,000 acres) in the northeast of the country, most of it in a vast area used for army training exercises.
The Aragon regional government's said Thursday in a statement on its Web site that 300 firefighters and 18 aircraft are battling the blaze, which broke out Tuesday. No one has been hurt and no towns have been evacuated.
Most the land that has burned is part of the San Gregorio military training ground, where the army stages exercises with land-based weapons such as tanks.
The Defense Ministry says there is no risk of the fire reaching munitions storage facilities. The cause of the blaze is not known. The ministry says live-fire exercises are suspended in summer because of fire risk.
