Four Indonesian robbers killed by police (Update)
NILAI: Four men, believed to be Indonesians, were killed in a shootout with police at a quarry in Labu near here early Monday.
The four, somewhere in their late 20s or early 30s, and believed to be behind several robberies near here over the past month were shot after they opened fire at policemen on patrol duty.
State police chief SAC I Datuk Osman Salleh said all four were killed on the spot.
“My officers spotted the suspicious-looking men in a white Proton Wira aeroback at about 5am near the Gadong-Labu junction and ordered the driver to stop.
“Initially, the driver stopped but then sped off when my officer asked him to produce identity documents,” he said.
Osman said the policemen gave chase and called in colleagues who were doing their rounds in Nilai.
After a six kilometre chase, the suspects drove onto a dirt road leading to the quarry.
However, their car crashed into a wall just before entering a tunnel leading to the quarry.
“When they got out of the car, one of the men fired two shots at the police. His three friends who were armed with parang also charged at my men but were killed when my men opened fire,” he said adding that six of the seven shots fired by the police hit the suspects.
Police also found another parang and a metal cutter in the car.
Osman said police could not positively identify the suspects as they had no identity documents on them. The car, with false registration plates, had been reported stolen at the Terminal 1 station on May 8.
He said police also had reasons to believe that the four were involved in a spate of robberies in Lukut and in Selangor.
