Liow confident MCA able to resolve internal disputes
KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is able to resolve its internal disputes and the party should be given some time to do so, said vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said the party had the mechanisms to resolve its issues amicably, adding that he was confident that these could be settled soon.
“Give us some time,” he said, adding that the party needed to focus on reform, community and national issues in facing challenges.
“We want to categorically state that Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, as the president of the MCA, has our full support. As I have always said, there is only one MCA and one president,” he said after opening the National A(H1N1) Influenza Pandemic Conference here yesterday.
Liow said the public had sent a strong message to MCA, expecting it to adhere to the highest ethical standards, during the March 8 general election.
“This is what the public wants us to do – to be reformed to be more accountable and transparent,” he said.
It was necessary for the party to have a stand on certain issues, he added.
“It is not based on personalities but principles.”
Meanwhile, a central delegate, who declined to be named, had questioned sacked party deputy Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s rationale for submitting 921 signatures for the EGM to the party headquarters, when he actually had more than 1,300 signatures.
“What is 921 supposed to mean? An underworld association or what? He owes his supporters an answer,” he said, claiming that delegates were unhappy after knowing that Dr Chua had submitted only 921 signatures.
On Friday, MCA central committee members Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho, Datuk Chong Itt Chew and Loh Seng Kok had submitted the signed requisition forms to party secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng.
