Confirmed: MCA’s EGM to be held on Oct 10 (Update)

KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA extraordinary general meeting will be held at 10am on Oct 10 at the Dewan San Choon, Wisma MCA here.
MCA secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng said notices had been sent out to 2,377 central delegates by 5pm Wednesday.
“The party annual general meeting scheduled on Oct 11 will be postponed to a date to be announced later,” he told reporters at Wisma MCA here on Wednesday.
He said the three people who requisitioned for the EGM – Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho, Datuk Chong Itt Chew and Loh Seng Kok – had been informed of the date.
Wong said Datuk Yik Phooi Hong, who would be chairing the EGM, would give his opening remarks before central delegates cast their votes in secret ballon on each of the five resolutions.
Wong also expressed his hope that all the central delegates would attend the EGM and make a wise decision by taking into consideration the party’s future.
“We leave it to the wisdom of the delegates to decide. The voting result is expected to be out the same day,” he said, adding that there would be no speeches or debates on that day and scrutineers would be present to monitor the counting of votes.
Wong said the date for the EGM was set after taking into consideration Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the AGM of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia, the mid-autumn festival and Bagan Pinang by-election.
“The EGM is not going to affect the by-election campaign. MCA will go all out to campaign for Barisan Nasional in the by-election,” he said.
At press time, Wong said he had yet to receive a notice from Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek to appeal against his sacking as deputy president.
Wednesday was the last day for Dr Chua to appeal although his supporters said he was unlikely to appeal.
The EGM will discuss five resolutions:
> That the members of the general assembly have no confidence in the leadership of president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat;
> That the presidential council’s decision on Aug 26 in accepting the recommendation of the disciplinary board and the subsequent decision of the central committee (if any) to expel or suspend Dr Chua Soi Lek is annulled;
> Dr Chua be rightfully restored as deputy president of MCA;
> The appointment made by the central committee, including that of the deputy president of MCA, be revoked; and
> There shall be no disciplinary action taken against any or all of the requisitionists by the disciplinary board, the central committee or the presidential council.
