DURIAN is ranked fifth on the list of the World’s Most Unusual Food.
Travel research site www.virtualtourist.com recently came up with a list of top 10 strangest foods based on a survey among its members.
It listed the King of Fruits as one of the most unusual foods on Earth, reported Sin Chew Daily.
Topping the list is Taiwan’s pig’s blood cake, a sweet, sticky snack made of pig blood and rice. It is reportedly a favourite of Aussie actor Hugh Jackman.
In the second place is live octopus, a South Korean delicacy.
This is followed by Uganda’s grasshopper, which could be eaten raw or cooked.
On the fourth spot is pigeon meat, which is served at the finest restaurants in France.
Others listed are Norway’s lutefisk, a traditional food made from dried or salted whitefish and marinated in lye; Australia’s grubs (larvae of moths); Vietnam’s snake wine; Italy’s donkey meat and South Africa’s ostrich meat.
> China Press reported the recovery of South Korean boy band SS501 member Kim Hyun-jung, who is believed to have been infected by Influenza A (H1N1) during his promotional tour in Malaysia.
He returned to South Korea on Wednesday after being discharged from a hospital in Japan.
Wearing a mask, Kim stepped out of the airport in Seoul and was greeted by more than 200 fans, who were not wearing masks.
