Three M’sians arrested for credit card fraud

BANGKOK: Three Malaysians were nabbed in a shopping mall in the outskirts of Bangkok for trying to buy a camera using fake credit cards.

The trio, two aged 28 and the other 43, was arrested by Thai police while waiting for their credit cards to be processed at a camera outlet in Nonthaburi province.

The owner, suspecting something was amiss with the cards, contacted the banks to verify the cards, Metropolitan Region One chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Chalong Sonchai told the media here Tuesday.

He said police went to the mall after being alerted by two commercial banks and found the Malaysians waiting at the camera outlet.

Upon checking, police found 10 fake credit cards said to be issued by banks in Europe and the United States, as well as two forged passports.

Dozens of Malaysians have been arrested in Thailand in recent months for credit card fraud.

At the Klong Prem Prison near here, more than two-thirds of the 92 Malaysian inmates are serving their jail sentences for credit card fraud.

In January, a 40-year-old Malaysian, wanted in the United States for skimming and stealing credit card data from cardholders, was picked up by Thai police in Nonthaburi. - Bernama
