A(H1N1): No new victims, death toll remains at 77
KUALA LUMPUR: No Influenza A(H1N1) fatality has been recorded in the country since Sept 19, with the death toll from the pandemic still at 77.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said 282 new patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) were admitted to hospitals and 130 patients were allowed to return home.
"This leaves 856 patients with ILI still in 95 hospitals, including 10 private hospitals, nationwide," he said in a statement here Saturday.
Dr Mohd Ismail said from laboratory tests conducted, only 178 patients or 21% of those being treated were H1N1 positive.
About 90% of those confirmed infected with H1N1 and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit were in high-risk groups, comprising children below five, and those who were obese or had chronic or respiratory illnesses, he added.
He said the pandemic was still active and advised the public to seek immediate treatment should they have ILI. - Bernama
