Singers say sorry after street brawl in Hong Kong

PETALING JAYA: Singers Gary Chaw and Justin Lo, whose recent drunken street brawl in Central, Hong Kong, hit the headlines, want to put the ugly episode behind them.

Lo had apologised to the people of Hong Kong and his fans at a press conference held on Thursday.

He said he should not be fighting and described the incident as “very ugly, stupid, embarrassing and serious”.

“Our friendship will not change. I am the godfather of his son,” said the Hong Kong artiste.

Chaw also apologised to Lo in a separate press conference held after the two had quarrelled and had a punch-up in the 1am incident on Wednesday.

“I have done something very wrong ... I apologise to Justin and Gold Typhoon (Justin’s recording company). If there is any form of compensation, I will cooperate,” said the Malaysian-born singer during his press conference.

Chaw and Lo will be facing criminal investigations as Hong Kong police have began their probe into the brawl.

Representatives from Gold Typhoon had also said that they wanted reserve the right to file a legal suit against Chaw for causing injuries.

According to Hong Kong’s Oriental Daily News, there were two versions why the two friends fought.

The first version was that Chaw had scolded Lo’s friends whom he felt had taken advantage of his buddy. They were all in a pub at that time.

Lo, however, defended his friends. A heated argument broke out between them.

Another version said the two were jamming at the pub when Lo complained that Chaw was off-beat in his drum playing.

When they left the pub, a heated argument ensued outside the premises, followed by two rounds of fist-fights.

YouTube clippings of the fight have gone viral on the Internet with one clipping seeing more than 22,000 hits since it was uploaded on Thursday.

The taxi driver, who had picked up both the singers and two other friends that day, said he did not recognise his famous passengers.

The driver, Ah Yong, told Oriental Daily News that the two of them started quarrelling in Chinese and English, using vulgarities. He made an emergency stop when one of them kicked the car door.

The kam mou (golden hair) got out of the vehicle but returned to kick a man still inside. At that point, Ah Yong got scared and chased all of them out.
