Member of Selangor royalty claims trial to CBT (Update)

PETALING JAYA: A member of the Selangor royalty has claimed trial to criminal breach of trust at the Sessions Court here.
Tengku Mohd Kamil Tengku Shahrudin Shah, 61, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to the charge of misappropriating RM1.15mil from his company Aneka Melor Sdn Bhd.
He is one of two directors at the construction company.

According to the facts of the case, the offence was carried out between Aug 2, 2005 and July 3, 2006 at the Aneka Melor office at Kelana Square in Kelana Jaya.
Sessions Court judge Rozana Ayub set bail at RM40,000 with one surety. Bail was posted by the accused’s son.
Tengku Mohd Kamil had to surrender to the court his passport which had expired last June. The Immigration Department has yet to verify that this is his only passport.
Deputy Public Prosecutor S. Devananthan appeared for the prosecution while Tengku Mohd Kamil was represented by Md Yunos Shariff.
Devananthan had proposed bail be set at RM150,000 with one surety because of the non-bailable nature of the offence.
Tengku Mohd Kamil’s lawyer however requested a lower bail and said that his client’s two children were still studying abroad and needed financial support.
He also added that his client had given full cooperation to the investigation officer in the case.
Tengku Mohd Kamil was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years, whipping and a fine if found guilty.
Hearing was set from May 17 to May 20.
