Still waiting for reply from Fomema on suggestion

WE all know that Fomema was created with noble intentions, which is to coordinate health screening of migrant workers. Of course profit is also of utmost importance.

We pay RM180 for a comprehensive health screening that includes X-ray.

Recently, I went to renew my maid’s work permit at the Immigration Department in Pusat Bandar Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.

I took a day off from work to renew the permit and was pleasantly surprised that the Immigration authorities were very efficient and had the permit approved fast.

The payment of the permit fee of about RM450 was accepted in cash.

But the same cannot be said of Fomema. There was a long queue to get the numbers and a form to fill up.

After that you select the clinic to do the screening. Then you wait for your turn to get it processed.

And here comes the shock. Fomema does not accept cash, credit card, debit card or a personal cheque. You have to go to a bank and purchase a banker’s cheque favouring Fomema to make the payment.

I am a retired Customs officer.

I remember that all government departments accept cash even to the thousands of ringgit; be it the Immigration Department, the Police, Inland Revenue Board, Customs, hospitals, etc.

What is so special about Fomema that they cannot accepts RM180 in cash? Is it about security or convenience to Fomema?

I made a loud protest that day at the Fomema office and was asked to fill up a form to make a suggestion.

I did fill up the form, gave my contact number and address but till today I have not received any reply from Fomema.

CHAN LIN HENG,
Kuala Lumpur.
