Perak scheme to empower orang asli youths
BOTA: The Perak Government is planning a programme to empower the orang asli in terms of the social development of their youths.
It will be included in its state budget. Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the programme would give the orang asli exposure that would enable them to compete with other youths.
“We want them to have self-confidence so they can improve themselves,” he told reporters after a gotong-royong with the orang asli in Kampung Tumbuh Hangat here yesterday.
“The government has allocated RM1mil as a start for the programme,” he added.
He stressed that the programme was different from the development plans to improve the orang asli’s socio-economy and amenities upgrading projects.
“We are committed to continue improving their lives,” he said.
On another matter, Dr Zambry denied that there would be a snap election in the state.
Speculation has been rife ever since Barisan Nasional began allocating generous amounts of money to respective groups and communities.
“We have been doing this all this while. This is our commitment to the people,” Dr Zambry said.
