Teoh’s fiancee wants to move on
By MARTIN CARVALHO
ALOR GAJAH: For 29-year-old Soh Cher Wei, the fiancee of the late political aide Teoh Beng Hock, coming to terms with what had happened and gradually picking up the pieces to restart her family life is her utmost priority.
Fresh start: Beng Hock’s mother Teng Shuw Hor carrying Er Jia as her husband Teoh Leong Hwee looks on at their home in Kelemak, Alor Gajah on Saturday. Cher Wei, who held a ceremony at Beng Hock’s family home in Kelemak on Saturday to mark the first month of their newborn son, Teoh Er Jia, said she tried not to dwell on things too much nowadays.
“I do not want to think so much about what had happened and just want to get on with my life with my family,” she said, adding that she was happy teaching Chinese and Science to Primary Three and Four students at SRJK Kong Nan in Batu Pahat.
Cher Wei, who has moved to her parents’ home in Batu Pahat, added she was glad that her parents have given their full support to her raising Er Jia as a single mother.
Some 100 relatives and friends gathered at Beng Hock’s family home here to present gifts and to catch a glimpse of Er Jia.
There was even a group of Form Five students of the Confucian Private School from Kuala Lumpur who specifically made a field trip to meet Cher Wei and Beng Hock’s family.
Teoh, 30, the political secretary to Selangor executive council member Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead the morning after he was taken to the state MACC office in Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam for questioning on July 15 last year over alleged irregularity in disbursement of funds.
Cher Wei was two months’ pregnant at the time.
