Chua: ‘I am for collective leadership’
KUALA LUMPUR: Newly-elected MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek will practise collective leadership and is confident of the party moving forward as a team.
”We will listen to the voice of the grassroots. I am convinced we can move forward as a team with support from all parties,” he told reporters at a press conference after he was declared the new party president.
He thanked central delegates for giving him and the other new members in the central committee the mandate to carry out their responsibilities.
Sealed with a kiss: Dr Chua receiving a kiss from his wife Datin Seri Wong after winning the election at Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur Sunday. Dr Chua won the president’s post by 901 votes while former party president Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting received 833 votes. Incumbent Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat garnered 578 votes.
Dr Chua also recorded the party’s appreciation to Ka Ting and Tee Keat.
”They are rich in experience. Both of them can teach and guide us as we lead the party,” he said, adding that the new leaders would listen to and cooperate with the two to make the party stronger.
Together with him at the press conference were his newly-elected deputy Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai as well the four vice-presidents Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai, Datuk Chor Chee Heung and Gan Ping Sieu. Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong was also there.
Dr Chua’s wife Datin Seri Wong Sek Hin kissed him twice to congratulate him.
