Fire under control at Tyson pork plant - Fire Dept
CHICAGO (Reuters) - A Friday morning fire at the Tyson Foods Inc pork plant in Logansport, Indiana, was under control, according to a Logansport Fire Department staff member.
The fire started Friday morning and so far there were no reports of injuries. The fire department could not provide additional information.
A local TV station quoted the Indiana State Police as saying the fire was burning on the roof.
A Tyson Foods spokesman said he was gathering information and may have a comment later. An Indiana livestock dealer said the plant was not processing hogs on Friday.
Logansport is about 50 miles north of Indianapolis and National Pork Board data show the plant can process up to 14,500 hogs a day.
News of the fire sent Chicago Mercantile Exchange hog futures lower in morning trading, CME traders said.
