New Touch ‘n Go system at LRT stations and buses next month
By ONG HAN SEAN
PETALING JAYA: Long ticket queues at LRT stations will be a thing of the past when the new Rapidpass Touch ‘n Go system is fully implemented next month.
Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad group communication general manager Ebi Azly Abdullah said it would ease congestion at LRT stations and cut down on bus queues.
“It is similar to the current monthly pass except that users no longer need to flash this to the officers on duty. They can just touch the new Rapidpass Touch ‘n Go at the card readers in any of the prepared lanes,” he said, adding that a total of 45 additional gates had been installed in all LRT stations.
“There will be four cards – Rapidpass Integrasi, LRT, Bas Semua and Bas Tempatan – priced at RM150, RM100, and RM40 respectively,” he said here yesterday.
He said all manual Rapidpasses would be discontinued on Sunday, except Rapidpass Konsesi for retirees and disabled people.
Ebi Azly said in line with this, free rides on weekends and public holidays for the family of those with Rapidpass Integrasi would also cease.
“Each card will be valid for 30 days, and it will be activated the moment it is touched at the reader,” he said, adding that previously, the monthly pass would expire at the end of the month regardless of when it was purchased.
He also clarified that Rapidpass Touch ‘n Go cards could only be used for RapidKL LRTs, monorail and buses and not toll booths.
“However, for those who already have a Touch ‘n Go card, they can still use the Rapidpass facility by activating it at any LRT station. The Rapidpass account will be stored in a separate pouch in their Touch ‘n Go cards,” he said.
“We want to encourage people to adopt cashless transactions with this electronic migration,” said Ebi Azly.
The first 10,000 Rapidpass Touch ‘n Go cards can be purchased at a 50% discount from any LRT station and selected bus hubs.
It is also available at any of the 40 RapidKL Touch ‘n Go top-up and sales kiosks at all LRT and KL StarRail stations.
