Skills cert holders can upgrade to degrees
PUTRAJAYA: Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) certificate holders can enter the civil service and upgrade to degree programmes, said Human Resource Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam.
He said the Skills Development Department would be collaborating with institutions of higher learning, as well as local and foreign bodies to improve the quality of vocational training in the country.
“We want to provide SKM certificate holders with opportunities to develop themselves and enhance their skills,” he said yesterday.
Dr Subramaniam was speaking to reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the department, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UniRazak) and Vocational Education Training Academy Sdn Bhd.
The MoU will allow SKM certificate holders to further their studies and have their qualifications recognised internationally.
Dr Subramaniam said the ministry was also working with the Higher Education Ministry to allow SKM holders to pursue diploma or degree programmes in polytechnics.
