Rise in dengue cases in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: Kelantan health authorities have expressed concern over the rise in the number of dengue cases in the state this year.

State Deputy Director of Health Dr Wan Mansor Wan Hamzah said the state recorded 1,707 cases of the disease, including five deaths, this year up to July 24 compared to 1,031 cases, including one death, during the corresponding period last year.

Three of the five deaths this year occurred in the Pasir Mas district and the two others in the Kota Baru district, he said.

"The rise in the number of cases is of concern and measures are being taken to prevent further spread of the disease," he told Bernama at the launch of the "Jom Ganyang Aedes" (Let's Destroy the Aedes Mosquito) campaign for the Kota Baharu district, here.

He said the programme was an extension of the campaign at the national level launched by Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai in Kuala Lumpur recently.
