KULAI JAYA: Firemen who spent 40 minutes battling a raging fire at a factory manufacturing plastic near here were forced to return to the scene a few hours later when another fire broke out.

The factory, located in the Senai industrial area, was first engulfed in flames at about 10pm on Sunday.

It took 17 firemen from the Kulai and Taman Universiti fire stations to douse the fire.

However, at about 6am, they received another call and raced back to the scene.

They battled the second fire for another hour before putting out the flames.

No one was working at the time of the incident except for a security guard.

Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Pisar Aziz said initial investigations revealed that there was an element of arson.

“We discovered traces of petrol and some cloth believed to have been used to accelerate the fire. We are not ruling out arson,” he said, adding that the department would hand over investigations to the police.

Mohd Pisar said losses were estimated at about RM20mil, based on feedback from the factory owner.
