Families registered with e-Kasih first to receive RM500 aid
By LEE YEN MUN
KUALA LUMPUR: Families registered with e-Kasih, a database of the poorest families in the country, are expected to be the first to receive RM500 from the Government starting January next year.
This is following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s Budget 2012 announcement that households with a combined monthly income of below RM3,000 will receive the sum.
“Those who are not registered under e-Kasih but qualify to receive the aid may need to fill up a form, which will be made available by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) in due time,” Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin said after opening the National Tax Seminar 2011 at the Putra World Trade Centre here yesterday.
Dr Awang Adek said the ministry and its agencies were in the process of setting up the facilities to identify eligible recipients and ways to disburse the money, adding that IRB would be the main agency in charge of executing the aid.
“A comprehensive registration exercise is essential so that the board has the information of those who deserve the aid.
“Do not worry about being left out, as it will only be implemented next year.”
When asked about the tax collection for this year, Dr Awang Adek said the target was RM91bil and that the collection had been “so far, so good”.
The seminar is an annual event traditionally held after every Federal budget presentation to help members of the public understand the document. A total of 1,120 participants attended the event.
