3,000 illegal budget hotels operating nationwide

MALAYSIA has about 6,000 budget hotels nationwide, half of which are operating illegally, Nanyang Siang Pau reported.

According to the legal operators, the illegal ones receive many local and international tourists daily, it reported.

However, the tourists aren't aware that they are staying at illegal hotels.

They would be unable to receive any compensation in the event of a fire or break-in as the hotels were operating illegally, it reported.

The illegal hotels are mushrooming as operators needed only about RM500,000 to build one and they break even in two years' time or less.

> Sin Chew Daily reported of a 10-year-old boy who ran away from home in Kuala Lumpur to return to his hometown in Bentong, Pahang, as he missed the village life.

The boy left his house and looked for his cousin, who works in Kuala Lumpur, as the latter's mother, who stays in Bentong, had taken care of the boy when he was younger.

However, the boy wandered into an Internet cafe near his cousin's workplace instead and stayed overnight there while his parents went in search of him.

The boy was spotted by his cousin 34 hours later and he promised not to run away from home again.
