Advisory panel should set up guidelines
I COMMEND the Government for setting up the pet advisory panel.
The panel must come up with clear guidelines for pet stores and pet hotels.
Most of these pet shops keep animals in their cages 24/7 with no walking room.
Specifications should be laid out for their enclosures and these pets must be able to walk around.
Recently, when I visited a pet shop that was about to close, I saw the cages of two dogs being pulled in.
I asked the owner if the dogs would be left in their cages the whole night, he replied ‘yes’.
I told him that it was a pity as they should be able to stretch and walk about at least at night.
His reply was: “If that is so, why don’t you buy them.”
So please ensure that all the different animals and their sizes are taken into consideration when drawing up these guidelines.
