BR1M applicants not required to provide bank account number

KUALA LUMPUR: Applicants for the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) are not required to provide their bank account number when making application for the aid, said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai.

He said the ministry had received complaints from the public on the existence of forged BR1M forms that required applicants to provide their bank account number.

"The ministry only wants the applicant's details such as the full name, identity card number, telephone number and monthly income and not the applicant's bank account number," he told a media conference at the Parliament lobby, here Wednesday.

He said a syndicate was trying to make quick profit by falsifying the BR1M forms, and applicants were reminded to be more careful.

Members of the public can call the BR1M Hotline at 1-800-222-500 to ascertain on the personal details that must be filled by the applicants so that they would not become victims of the scam, he said.

He said the BR1M application forms had been distributed free of charge since Saturday and they could be obtained at all branches and service centres of the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), Information Department, Federal Development Department, the main lobby of the Finance Ministry and selected schools from 9am to 5pm.

Registration of BR1M applications started on Dec 10 and the last day for submitting the forms is Jan 10 next year.
