GEORGE TOWN: Special rabbit plush toys are the rage now for lovebirds celebrating Valentine’s Day on Monday.
Pulau Tikus-based Eden Floral and Gift Centre‘s proprietor Seah Chin Eng said the bunnies in various shapes and sizes are in demand this year as it is now the Year of the Rabbit.
“We started getting orders for Valentine’s Day from as early as last December.
Hare today, gone tomorrow: Workers at Eden Floral and Gift Centre in Pulau Tikus arranging the bunnies in special bouquets yesterday. “Our regular customers ordered their bouquets early to avoid rising prices during Valentine’s Day,” she said.
She said that besides rabbits, teddy bear plush toys were also favoured by customers.
“Teddy bears are popular every year too,” she said.
This year, her shop is also introducing roses studded with diamond-shaped ornaments to make the day even more special for their customers.
“I got the idea during a recent trip to Holland,” said Seah, who received formal training in floral arrangements at the Dutch capital of Amsterdam.
She said chocolates were another favourite item to send with the Valentine bouquets.
“We are also using a newly designed paper wrapping to further enhance our bouquets,” said Seah.
Seah lamented that prices were higher this time around compared to the previous year due to the appreciation of China’s yuan.
“Most roses are imported from China as the local supply from Cameron Highlands is insufficient,” she said, adding that other popular flowers were white lily and tulips.
She said flower prices had increased by 20% to 30%, with a bouquet of a dozen roses complete with packaging costing around RM140. Related Stories:
