Chua: Charges against Chan will not affect MCA

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy’s court case will not affect MCA, said party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

He said that when a person was charged in court, it did not mean he was guilty.

“We should let the legal process take its course,” said Dr Chua at a press conference after witnessing the signing ceremony between AirAsia X and Airbus here yesterday.

The president was asked to comment on the case of Chan, the former MCA deputy president who claimed trial yesterday to three counts of cheating over the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal.

Dr Chua said anyone who had committed an offence in the eyes of the Attorney-General’s Chamber should face the music.

“This shows that the Government is fair because it doesn’t just go after the small fish but also the big fish,” he said.

On whether the charges against Chan is an indication that the general election is approaching, Dr Chua said: “No, it has nothing to do with the general election.”
