I have faith in judicial system, says Chan

PUTRAJAYA: Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy has faith in the judicial system and believes his name will be cleared.

“It (the charges) came as a surprise to me. Anyway, I have confidence in the judicial system of the country and (will) go through it and clear my name,” he told reporters as he was leaving the courthouse at 4.35pm after posting the RM1mil bail.

Be careful: A combo of pictures showing Chan trying to stop a press photographer from losing his balance and hitting his head on a pillar.

Chan, however, did not reply to questions fielded by reporters. He merely smiled as he walked towards an awaiting Lexus.

Some two hours earlier, press photographers rushed to get a shot of Chan when he was led into the Palace of Justice at 2.05pm.

He was cheerful when he met his wife, Puan Sri Ann Chan, and daughter Kai Xuan, who had arrived ahead of him and were waiting for him outside the courtroom.

Chan hugged his wife before he was escorted into the Sessions Court. Ann and Kai Xuan sat in the public gallery.

The former minister was calm as the charges against him were read out before judge Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh.

Chan’s son, Jia Heng, said the family was handling the situation calmly.

“This is a good opportunity to clear my father’s name,” he added.
