‘LRT extension project won’t cost more than RM7bil’
KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (Prasarana) group director of project development division Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff said that the cost of the light rail transit extensions for the Kelana Jaya and Ampang lines would not exceed its RM7bil budget.
Zulkifli said Prasarana raised RM2bil through its bond sales to fund the extension while the remaining sum would be raised from 2012 onwards.
Zulkifli said advanced works are currently going on for both lines including the relocation of telecommunication cables, electric cables, water and sewerage pipes as well as gas pipelines.
He said physical works would begin end of March and the entire project is expected to be completed within two years.
Zulkilfi said 35 new trains would also be added to the Kelana Jaya line extension and 20 for the Ampang line.
He also said there are currently no plans to increase the fare, but noted that it would be reviewed by the Government at a later date.
