Ex-Hindraf leader stops temple demolition

MAKKAL Osai reported that former ISA detainee and Hindraf leader K. Vasantha Kumar managed to temporarily halt the demolition of six houses and the Kaliammal Temple in Kampong Telaga Cina in Bedong, near Sungai Petani.

Vasantha Kumar said the landowners had obtained permission from the court to demolish the 100-year-old temple and the six houses.

The paper reported that about 300 people, including devotees, had gathered near the temple to protest the demolition.

Vasantha Kumar managed to delay the demolition by five days. He said he would meet with the landowners and their lawyers to find a peaceful solution.

> Malaysia Nanban reported that a 22-year-old woman from Delhi succumbed to her injuries while her fiance miraculously escaped after their auto rickshaw was knocked down by a speeding bus in Bangalore on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Poonam Rajput, and her fiance Rasheed, had eloped from Delhi in March and had been staying in Bangalore for the past three months.

Police said Rasheed fled the scene with the victim's jewels soon after she was taken to a nearby hospital.
