Students raise RM2,500 to help blogger’s ailing wife

KUALA LUMPUR:A group of enterprising college students raised RM2,500 to support blogger Ahmad Daniel Sharani through a charity drive.

The students from Multimedia College (MMC) Kuala Lumpur washed cars, sold recycled items and set up game booths, with proceeds generated from the one-day fundraiser donated to Ahmad's wife Molee Kamal, who was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer.

So far, RM26,000 has been raised since the fund was launched on May 16. The fund, “Blogger for Blogger Kerp”, is so named after Ahmad's nickname, Kerp.

A former columnist with an English daily, Ahmad, 35, has been wheelchair-bound since a road accident 17 years ago and now runs a blog focusing on everyday issues affecting the disabled.

“I want to thank everyone who donated to pay for my wife's medical expenses,” said Ahmad.

Blogger Datuk Ahirudin Attan and MMC CEO Khaneeza Khalid presented a cheque to Ahmad yesterday.

“A little bit of creativity will go a long way in encouraging people to donate,” said Ahirudin, who also runs a blog called Rocky's Bru.
