GEORGE TOWN: The two killer canines which mauled an Irish tourist to death in January, have been put to sleep here after a two-month court battle.

Known as Li and Ning, the two pitbull-type dogs were put down using lethal injection under the watchful eyes of three government veterinarians yesterday at the Veterinary Services Department.

It is learnt that they were bathed and fed before they were put down.

Holding back tears: Bee Eng stroking the carcass of her dog in the jeep, while a veterinarian confirms its death at Jalan Gurdwara Thursday.

The dogs' owner Joseph Teoh Boon Aun, 42, was close to tears when he carried the lifeless Li to his jeep at 2.45pm. Moments later, he brought out the carcass of Ning.

His wife Teoh Bee Eng, 56, who was waiting inside the vehicle, was seen fighting back her tears as she stroked the carcasses of the dogs.

It is learnt that the two dogs were buried at Teoh's organic farm in Teluk Bahang.

The couple had reached an agreement with the Penang Municipal Council in a consent judgment at the High Court on Monday to put down the killer canines.

On Jan 9, the two dogs attacked Maurice Sullivan, 51, who was visiting the organic farm.

He died of severe haemorrhage with multiple bites on his limbs, head and neck.

Two more canines Yin and Kang were released to the owners with the understanding that they would be confined to a secured area away from the public.

Teoh and Bee Eng were seen bringing the two other dogs home at about 10.30am yesterday.
