A GROUP of diehard gamblers resorted to playing cards in a chicken coop to escape detection.

The uncomfortable surroundings and smell of chicken droppings did not deter the six gamblers, including a senior citizen and a teenager, from having their game at a banana plantation at Kampung Tanjung, Batu Rakit in Kuala Terengganu.

However, they could not escape the long arm of the law.

Sinar Harian reported that Muhammad Yusop, 60, was caught along with five others for gambling in the chicken coop on July 16.

The six were caught red-handed at 1.30pm by policemen based on a tip-off.

Muhammad, Mohd Saiful Azuan Che Asdi, 23, Mohd Suffian Mohd Teh, 24, Syed Azmi Syed Omar, 44, Zakaria Mat Shah, 48, and the unnamed teenager pleaded guilty to gambling in the magistrate's court on Sunday.

They were charged under Section 6(1)(a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.

Magistrate Noradila Ab Latif fined them RM1,500 each.

A total of RM79 in betting money was confiscated along with a deck of cards.

> After being engaged for more than a year, actors Norman Hakim, 35, and Memey Suhaiza Suhaimi, 23, are set to wed on Sept 24, reported Kosmo!.

According to a source, the wedding will be held at Memey's house in Felda Tenggaroh Selatan 1, Kota Tinggi, Johor.

The couple's marriage planner and publicity director Bill Bora said they would hold a press conference on Friday at Crowne Plaza Mutiara Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

“A noted personality, who is world-famous, will also attend,'' claimed Bora.

However, he said the personality's presence had something to do with the couple's wedding reception, which would be held at the hotel on Sept 28.
