KAR1SMA programme to aid the needy
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the 1Malaysia people’s welfare programme KAR1SMA recently, which is expected to improve the lives of some 500,000 underprivileged people including senior citizens, the disabled, children and single mothers.
He said a sum ranging between RM100 and RM450 would be given to the recipients each month.
He also announced that widows of policemen and military personnel were also eligible to receive the financial aid, adding that it was the Government’s way of showing appreciation to the armed forces and the men in blue for their contribution and sacrifice in keeping the country safe.
The KAR1SMA programme has been allocated RM1.4bil for its cause, of which RM332mil is allocated for the disabled, RM290mil for underprivileged children, RM455mil for senior citizens, RM4.1mil for widows of police and military personnel and RM303mil for various community-based programmes.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the widows of policemen and military personnel would also be entitled to receive a launching grant to start their own small businesses.
