Tenpin ace Nur Afizal jailed for rape

MALACCA: National Tenpin bowling ace Nur Afizal Azizan, 20, was sentenced to five years’ jail by the High Court here for committing statutory rape.

Justice Ahmad Nasfy Yasin meted out the sentence after considering the facts submitted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Haslina Abu Bakar on the case while Nur Afizal was represented by counsel Azrul Zulkifli Stork.

Justice Ahmad yesterday reiterated that the accused should have realised that the girl was underaged and should not have entered into an intimate relationship, although both of them were lovers at the time Nur Afizal committed the offence.

Nur Afizal had raped the 13-year-old at a hotel in Ayer Keroh here between 12.30am and 5am on June 5, 2009.

The accused had claimed trial under Section 376 of the Penal Code at the Session Court in July this year.

Nur Afizal had represented Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Kedah in Tenpin bowling competitions at Malaysia Games and several other national-level tournaments between 2008 and 2010.
