Health Ministry meets PSD to create more jobs for 8,000 unemployed nurses

By CHRISTINA TAN

BATU PAHAT: The Health Ministry has met Public Service Department (PSD) over creating more posts to resolve the issue of 8,000 jobless nurses from nursing colleges.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said Wednesday there were many areas within the public services that needed nursing services.

She said some nurses would be absorbed into government hospitals and clinics because there were vacancies.

“Besides, sending them for the existing posts, we have discussed with the PSD on having more new posts allocation within the ministry because there are many areas that still need nurses.

“Nursing service is always wanted because of increasing number of patients and healthcare facilities,” she said after attending the Batu Pahat Hospital renaming ceremony here.

Rosnah was responding to questions about the 8,000 jobless nursing graduates.
