Chor: Tenders to be called for 800-tonne capacity incinerators

By P ARUNA

KUALA LUMPUR: International tenders for three incinerators of 500 to 800-tonne capacity will be opened in March next year.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung said the incinerators would be located in Taman Beringin here, Bukit Payong in Johor and Malacca.

He said the country now has incinerators of less than 100 tonne capacity located in Langkawi, Tioman, Lumut and Cameron Highlands.

"The prime minister said if we were to build more incinerators, they would have to be of the best technology and not compromise on the environment," he said.

The Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and the Public-Private Partnership Unit (Ukas) and the ministry are preparing details of the international tender.

The incinerators, Chor said, would save a lot of land being turned into landfills.
