KUCHING: An elderly woman was attacked then robbed in her home last Tuesday by two masked men.

The 61-year-old victim, who wanted to be known as Lily, had just emerged from her bedroom around 10.45pm when she heard a commotion outside her house in Taman Genesis, Jalan Matang here.

Two men barged in and attacked her with steel rods.

“I pleaded with them not to hurt me but they still bashed me up. I couldn’t scream as I feared they would kill me,” said Lily of her ordeal.

She sustained injuries to her fingers, chin and head.

The robbers, according to her, only began to ransack her house when she hit the ground after the beating. They left with a drawer filled with her valuables.

A neighbour, who declined to be named, said he heard noises coming from Lily’s house so he decided to investigate.

He found Lily lying on the floor and quickly called the police.

Police arrived shortly and they discovered that the auto gate of the victim’s house had been lifted out of position.

An ambulance later brought Lily to the Sarawak General Hospital.

She was only well enough yesterday to lodge a police report. Taken were a mobile phone, two sets of gold earrings, ATM cards, land title, personal documents and RM1,300.

Kuching police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad confirmed the report and said his men were looking for the suspects.
