Saturday morning rain slows traffic (Updated)
PETALING JAYA: Saturday morning saw even more flash floods and road accidents on the heels of Friday evening's torrential downpour which caused a massive traffic snarl.
Flash floods around 11am on the Besraya Expressway from KM8 to KM8.9 north (Sungai Besi to Kampung Malaysia) caused the road's left and middle lanes to be temporarily closed for nearly an hour, with traffic moving at a crawl on this stretch until close to noon.
Two accidents on the NKVE at KM17.5 and KM17.7 (Kota Damansara to Damansara) around noon and 2.15pm led to congested traffic.
The Plus highway also saw two accidents in less than two hours at KM171.3 (Jasin to Tangkak) and KM 447.9 (Rawang Selatan to Hospital Sungai Buloh).
Although no lanes were blocked, traffic was slowed down.
Traffic from Subang to Damansara was also sluggish, although no floods on the NKVE were recorded.
Meanwhile, beginning 4.30pm Saturday, the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway route will be closed in both directions for the Nike We Run KL 2012 event.
The roads will be reopened at 8.30pm.
Rainfall on Friday, as stated on the Meteorological Department website, was at 14mm and within the moderate level of 11 to 30mm.
About 300 houses were affected during the flash floods.
The heavy rain resumed on Saturday morning, mainly affecting areas in and around PJ and Kota Damansara.
