Senior lecturer claims trial to cheating resort manager


JOHOR BARU: A senior lecturer in the Civil Engineering and Environment Faculty of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) pleaded not guilty in Sessions Court here Tuesday to cheating a resort manager of RM16,000.

Mohd Effendi David, 39, was accused of deceiving Paridah Husin, 46, on July 29 last year to handing over the money on the pretext UTHM would be holding a certificate presentation ceremony for its students.

He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and whipping and fine, if convicted.

Judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz set bail at RM10, 000 with one surety pending further mention of this case on Nov19.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission DPP Noor Fazlin Hamdan appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by counsel Mohd Razak Sharif. - Bernama
