289 receive federal honours from the King


KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Employers Federation president Tan Sri Azman Shah Haron led a list of 289 recipients bestowed with the 2012 federal awards and medals in conjunction with the birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

He received the Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) which carries the title 'Tan Sri' from the King at an investiture ceremony at the Istana Negara on Tuesday.

The other recipients of the award were former air force chief Lt-Gen (R) Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Abdul Aziz, OSK Investment Bank Berhad director Tan Sri Ong Leong Huat alias Wong Joo Hwa, Malaysia Deposit Insurance Corporation chairman Tan Sri Dr Abdul Samad Alias and Malaysian Council of Former Elected Representatives (Mubarak) president Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong was accompanied by the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah.

Fourteen people were conferred the Darjah Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) which carries the title 'Datuk'.

Among the recipients of the award were Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party vice-president Datuk Balang Rining, Hospital Kuala Lumpur head of Department of Neurosurgery Datuk Dr Mohammed Saffari Mohammed, Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia president Datuk Syed Ali Mohamed Alattas, and Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad chairman Datuk Zamani alias Muhamad Chali Abdul Ghani.

The sole recipient of the PJN (honorary) award for non-Malaysian nationals that carries the title 'Datuk' was UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd deputy chairman Datuk Takashi Hibi.

Four people received the Johan Mangku Negara (JMN) award, Johan Setia Mahkota (JSM) (29), Kesatria Mangku Negara (KMN) (54), Ahli Mangku Negara (AMN) (82), and Pingat Pangkuan Negara (PPN) (100).
