Liow: Amendments to Dental Act not ready for tabling

By MARTIN CARVALHO

KUALA LUMPUR: There are no plans to table amendments to the Dental Act 1971 during the present Parliament sitting, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said that the ministry was still in the engagement process with all relevant stakeholders with views to be brought to the Cabinet for a final decision, before the proposed amendments are tabled in Parliament.

"We are still at the consultation and engagement stage with all stakeholders and will consider all views before tabling to the Cabinet for a final decision for amendments to be brought to Parliament," he told reporters at Parliament lobby here Wednesday.

He urged all parties to cooperate in providing feedback so as to allow the necessary amendments to be made to streamline and regulate the profession involving over 4,000 practitioners.

He was asked to comment on whether a Bill proposing amendments to the Act would be tabled in Parliament this sitting.
