Kelantan police ready for floods

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan police will intensify patrols along the Kelantan side of Sungai Golok, which borders Malaysia and Thailand, during the flood season.

State police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said they had identified locations along the Kelantan side of the river, which could be easily infiltrated during the floods.

He said preparations had been made to face the eventuality of a flood in the state, including getting ready the necessary logistics.

"We have prepared 40 boats to patrol the river," he told reporters after the monthly assembly of the Kelantan police contingent here Thursday.

He called for public cooperation for information on smuggling activities to facilitate action by the police and relevant authorities.

He also advised parents, especially those staying in flood prone areas, to monitor their young children, to prevent any untoward incidents during the floods. - Bernama
