Bah Tony told to rethink

IPOH: Orang asli lawyer and activist Bah Tony (pic), who has resigned from DAP, has been asked to reconsider his decision.
Perak DAP chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham said the party was waiting for his response.
“Even if he chooses not to stay with DAP, we will continue to work with him especially on orang asli matters,” he said yesterday.
Ngeh said he had spoken with Bah Tony over the course of two months in relation to his intention to quit, which was due to personal reasons.
Ngeh refused to comment on talk that Bah Tony, whose full name is Amani William-Hunt Abdullah, may join PKR to contest in the Chenderiang state seat.
Ngeh also dismissed the notion that DAP's performance in the general election would be affected by Bah Tony's resignation.
“People vote for us based on our policies, not individuals,” he said.
Bah Tony, who submitted his resignation letter to Ngeh almost two weeks ago, joined DAP in 2011.
Sam Amok, 48, the tok batin of Batu Berangkai village in Kampar, said he was surprised by the news.
“He seemed to be doing well in fighting for the cause of the orang asli community while in DAP,” he said.
Coordinator of the Indigenous Orang Asli Network Tijah Yok Chapil said it was best to allow Bah Tony to explain the reason for his resignation.
In PETALING JAYA, former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim said he was not surprised by Bah Tony's resignation.
Saying that Bah Tony was probably disillusioned like many others who had left the party, he said the exodus of party members would continue if the leadership refused to change their dictatorial ways.
“DAP should be renamed Dictatorship Action Party' if dictatorship prevails. The party demonised me when I objected to its involvement in the Bersih rallies,” he said.
Former Taman Sungai Pelek DAP chief Tan Tuan Tat, who quit last month, warned that the divide-and-rule culture would destroy the party.
Two other members, Tan Chew Wah and Yap Kon Min, were sacked for allegedly sabotaging the party after they lodged a complaint against a councillor.
