Rais: We’ll let Singapore handle the matter

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will leave it to Singapore to handle the “erotic porn blog” situation for now, said Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.

However, the Information, Communications and Culture Minister said that the Government was monitoring the situation closely.

“We have legal redress under Section 233 and 263 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“But we would rather not use that until and unless we get the results of what the Singaporean authorities are pursuing first,” he said after launching the promotional campaign for U-Pustaka here yesterday.

Stressing that “we are not going to be quiet about it” when it came to taking action, Rais urged Malaysians to come forward and show that they did not condone such behaviour.

However, he acknowledged that the couple's quick action in blocking further access to their blog was a good move.

“Perhaps in this respect, they thought there was no more abuse under the law,” he said.

Dr Rais said Tan and Lee could have blocked access to the blog because they knew it was “something not right”.

“I think what they have done on their own has been self-efficacious and we should respect that,” he said.
