Group insurance coverage for firemen


IPOH: The Government will introduce a Group Insurance Coverage Scheme for Fire and Rescue Department personnel beginning next year.

The director-general of the department, Datuk Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim said the scheme would provide a maximum coverage of RM15,000 to its 13,108 serving personnel.

"The Government has agreed to provide the scheme for the firemen after the Housing and Local Government Ministry made an application two weeks ago," he said after the presentation of Excellent Service Awards, the department's Pingat Kebesaran and the Perak Fire and Rescue Department's 30-year service certificate, here Friday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when tabling the 2013 Budget had announced the introduction of the Group Insurance Coverage Scheme to serving armed forces and police personnel.

Wan Mohd Nor said the measures were to appreciate the contributions by the firemen whose sacrifice and exposure to various risks when discharging their duty to help people during fires, accidents and floods. - Bernama
