JOHOR BARU: A father who found that his son had an expensive smartphone was shocked to learn that it was a gift from a doctor who allegedly molested the 12-year-old boy.
“At first the boy lied that he found the phone at a playground,” OCPD Supt Noor Hashim Mohamed told reporters at the Nusajaya district police headquarters near here yesterday.
“But, after incessant questioning, the boy confessed that he got it from the doctor.”
Following a report lodged by the boy's father, police arrested the doctor at his clinic at about 1pm yesterday.
The boy has since been sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here for a check-up.
“We received the report at around 8pm on Sunday after the father found his son with a new Samsung Galaxy Ace,” Supt Noor Hashim said.
The doctor, a bachelor, was said to have taken the boy to his clinic in Taman Bukit Indah on Oct 20 and molested him.
“He hugged the victim and touched his private part,” said Supt Noor Hashim.
“The doctor allegedly also told the boy to remove his pants, but he refused to do so,” he said, adding that the doctor had been running the clinic for the past five years.
On another matter, Supt Noor Hashim said police conducted a series of raids in the Nusajaya area from Sept 28 to Oct 18 and nabbed six gang robbery suspects, aged between 20 and 40.
“They used parang and an axe in their illegal activities, and tie up their victims with cable tights before robbing them,” he said.
Police also seized a Honda motorcycle and a stolen Nissan Sentra with loot comprising RM1,584 in cash, eight mobile phones, two luxury watches and a cane in the car boot.
The suspects would be charged under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code with armed gang robbery, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
