Mock polls to be held at NS camps

SEPANG: The National Service Training Department will introduce the election programme at all 79 National Service (NS) camps next year.

National Service Training Department director-general Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said a pilot programme which was carried out at 14 NS camps since early this year had showed encouraging result.

“The trainees were receptive towards the programme and our instructors also are ready. We should be able to introduce this programme at next year's first batch intake,” he said here yesterday.

He said the programme, under the Nationalism Training Module, would see mock elections being held at the camps where trainees would vote for their respective parliamentary representatives.

“It is a three-day simulation involving the dissolution of Parliament, selection of candidates and the election process.

“The Election Commission will help us out on this programme,” he said, adding that the programme was aimed at exposing trainees to the country's election process.
