Policeman charged with raping 15-year-old girl

PETALING JAYA: A police-patrolling officer was charged in a Sessions Court here for raping a 15-year-old girl in August.
Azman Zakaria, 28 claimed trial to the charge after the charge was read to him before Sessions Judge Rozina Ayob Tuesday.
He was accused of raping the girl at a house in Jalan Berkat 5, Kg Sri Aman, Puchong here at about 6.30pm on Aug 5.
Azman who was attached to Melaka Tengah police station was charged under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which provides a maximum of 30 years' jail and also whipping on conviction.
DPP Siti Aishah Ab. Rashid offered RM8, 000 bail saying that Azman was a civil servant.
Counsel Esther Tan Siew Choo who acted for Azman said that she hoped the court would reduce the bail to RM3, 000 as her client had given cooperation to the court.
Judge Rozina later granted bail at RM5,000 with one surety and also ordered him not to approach the witness, family and victim
Judge Rozina set Nov 23 for mention pending medical report.
