Immigration enforcement to be beefed up, says Hisham

PUTRAJAYA: Efforts are underway to reinforce the Immigration Department's Enforcement Division, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said.

He said the efforts would include increasing the division's manpower, which currently consists of 2,300 people.

“They will be sent for training to acquire higher skills and be provided the best equipment.

“We want to have an enforcement division that is efficient and well-equipped in line with present challenges,” he said after meeting Peninsula Malaysia Immigration Service Union officials here yesterday.

Hishammuddin said the department's Intelligence and Analysis Unit would also be strengthened to handle cross-border crimes.

“A focus group has been formed to study the matter and give recommendations.

“I have given them one month to prepare a preliminary report which would include steps to improve the service scheme,” he said.

Hishammuddin said the preliminary report would be submitted to the Special Commission to study the transformation of civil service.

He said a complete proposal would be submitted to the Public Service Department.
