KUALA TERENGGANU: A male teacher selling cosmetics part-time has been slashed by a group of men, believed to be due to jealousy over a supposed illicit affair with a married woman.

The 35-year-old primary school teacher in Besut had on Tuesday received a phone call from a woman, who claimed that she wanted to buy some cosmetics.

The teacher agreed to meet her in front of Maktab Perguruan Sultan Mizan at Kampung Raja, Besut, at about 6.30pm. However, when he reached the place with his younger brother, the woman was not there.

Instead, they were greeted by two masked men armed with machetes, who proceeded to slash the teacher several times as his 19-year-old brother watched in horror.

The assailants later took off in separate cars.

Terengganu CID chief Asst Comm K. Manoharan said the teacher was sent to Besut Hospital by his brother.

“He suffered slash wounds on his back, arms and legs. Initial investigations showed that the husband of one of the man's customers might have suspected his wife of having an affair,” he said.

The teacher, added ACP Manoharan, had since been transferred to the Kubang Kerian University Hospital for further treatment. He is in stable condition.

Police are looking for Che Wan Sharmizie Che Wan Mat, 29, a contractor, to assist in the investigations.
