Donald Lim: You can only apply for BR1M 2.0 once

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians should not try to cheat their way into getting more cash aid by applying for the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) 2.0 many times and from different areas.
"If you are entitled, you can only apply once," Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim told reporters at Parliament Monday.
He added that those who received the aid last year need not apply again as the ministry already had their records.
Lim said there was a case where the same person applied for the cash aid from five different states but was caught as the ministry traced his identification card number.
"We expect a 10% increase in applicants this time. Last year 4.35 million households out of 5.2 million applicants were approved to get the aid," Lim said, adding that RM2.15bil was handed out last year.
Registration for the BR1M will commence on Nov 1 whereby application forms can be downloaded from the Inland Revenue Board website, www.hasil.gov.my.
The disbursement for the BR1M will take place in January next year.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, in his Budget 2013 proposals, extended the aid under BR1M 2.0 with a cash handout of RM250 to single, unmarried individuals aged 21 and above, who earn not more than RM2,000 a month.
Lim said some 2.7 million single, unmarried individuals were expected to apply for the extended aid, which application commences on Nov 1 as well.
On disbursing the RM100 schooling assistance under the 2013 Budget early, he said the ministry will discuss with the Attorney-General and Education Ministry to see if the law allows for such a move as the allocation was meant for next year.
