Task force to assess controversial condo project near Batu Caves

By A. RUBAN

SHAH ALAM: An independent task force will be formed to look into the controversial 29-storey condominium project to be built next to the Batu Caves temple complex.

Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said apart from studying the impact of construction work on the temple, the task force will also assess if the condominium posed a danger to its surrounding areas before, during and after construction.

"The State Planning Committee (SPC) will select the task force and carry out the necessary work in the nearest time," he told reporters after attending a Hari Raya Aidiladha open house by the Karangkraf group here Monday.

The proposed project by Dolomite Industries has been temporarily halted following orders from the state government to conduct soil testing.

The temple committee as well as Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat leaders, have protested against the project.
